---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of a electric wheelchair that resembles a scooter to offer greater mobility to individuals with mobility disabilities (i.e. wheelchair users, etc.). Created by robotics and medical experts in Japan, the four-wheeled Rodem allows users to ride astride, compared a conventional sitting wheelchair. The user can steer with a joystick, hold onto motorbike-style handles while the knees and chest rest on cushions. This design allows user to easily slide on and off the vehicle, lessening reliance on caregivers or conventional lift systems. The Rodem can also be used by able-bodied individuals who simply ride and enjoy. Future enhances may involve more robotic features that enable the vehicle to come when the user calls.
